The power of the employee in a preventive health & wellbeing approach
Volvo Cars Gent got to know BioRICS through the coaching company Oh My People. As they strongly believe in the power of the employee, they found this new concept appealing in which the employee takes the initiative to start working on his/her own health and the employer offers the tools that can help with this.
In a first project, a group of volunteers started monitoring with Mindstretch. The app quickly made them aware of the amount of energy needed for specific tasks during their daily job; things they didn’t even realize they had such an impact on their energy levels.
Employees are becoming more aware or gaining new insights using the Mindstretch tool.
It helps us to build a follow-up based on that because creating insights is one thing but what are the actions that need to be linked to them to effectively engage with our employees.

Focus on making employees more healthy
“Workdays with constant back-to-back meetings or projects that entail quite some time pressure at certain moments are quite intense”, said Tom. “One intuitively feels this but you do not always think about it”. After a demanding week, it would be good to take it easy over the weekend but that’s exactly the time when people go out with friends. Even when it’s fun, it takes a lof of energy, certainly when combined with an evening meal or some alcohol. If this happens 2 to 3 times on a weekend, the weekend becomes dark orange. Tom realized that the measurement results made him aware of a number of things like: “I need to start paying attention to this the next few days” or ”I do need to make sure I get enough rest”.
As a sportsman, he also noticed that physical workout sessions late in the evening postpone his mental recovery for quite some time. It is only late into the night that he sees green bars appearing in his graph, which indicates that physical exercise took more energy than he would have thought. He therefore considers to change the timing of his physical exercises to the morning instead of the evening.
